Sometimes we accidentally put on two different shoes, but today is the day you should do it on purpose. They don't even have to be the same style! I wonder how many people will notice your shoes. It will be pretty hard to wear them very long if they have a different heel. That would probably make you walk funny, but it would be a fun way to celebrate this funny day. This almost sounds like a made up "national day", but it really was invented by Dr. Arlene Kaiser and really has its own website! It is supposed to remind us about how diverse and different we are. It reminds me of that old Sunday School song that "Jesus Loves the little children. All the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white. They are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world." It doesn't matter to Jesus what we look like. It doesn't matter how smart or tall we are. It doesn't matter if we have curly hair or freckles, or if we have a smart phone or not. Jesus loves us all and we are all partners in his church. We need to work together with other people -- who might not be like us -- and care for each other. John 13:34-35 says, "Love one another as I have loved you." So, today, when you are wearing your two different shoes and someone asks you why, tell them that you are thinking about loving other people who are different than you, just like Jesus does!
